Seven months after new rules against unjustified geo-blocking began to apply, general consumer awareness of the new rules against restrictions for online shopping and cross-border sales is already high. A Eurobarometer survey shows that just a few months after the new rules on geo-blocking started to apply, 50% of EU citizens are generally aware of EU action to tackle unjustified discrimination by traders.

The Watch List reflects the results of stakeholder consultations. It presents examples of reported marketplaces or service providers whose operators or owners are allegedly resident outside the EU and which reportedly engage in, facilitate or benefit from counterfeiting and piracy. The aim is to encourage the operators and owners as well as the responsible local enforcement authorities and governments to take the necessary actions and measures to reduce the availability of IPR infringing goods or services on these markets.

After duly research the Russian ministry of trade and industry has names the most popular category of counterfeits in Russia – the products of light industry. 20% of almost all products of this industry are counterfeited; the monetary assessment counts up to 725 billion Roubles in 2017.

Similar positive impact on researchers as under Option 2 as regards both legal certainty and reduction of transaction costs, as a result of the introduction of an exception harmonised at EU level. Additional positive impact as this option would remove the legal uncertainty and the grey area as regards the research projects carried out by public organisations with a possible commercial outcome, including in cooperation of these organisations with private partners (PPPs).

Research by BrandMonitor, a company specializing in brand and trademark protection, indicated that two thirds of counterfeit sellers admit selling fakes. Moreover, 46% of those who admit selling fake goods assume they were not breaking the law. The fact that counterfeits can be a hazard for consumers’ health or safety is not a priority for merchandisers or even for consumers themselves. According to merchandisers, counterfeits is more attractive to consumers because of lower price.

Text and Data Mining (TDM) is a term commonly used to describe the automated processing (“machine reading”) of large volumes of text and data to uncover new knowledge or insights. TDM can be a powerful scientific research tool to analyse big corpuses of text and data such as scientific publications or research datasets. Copyright issues contribute to the slow development of TDM in EU research.
Russian public opinion research center (VCIOM) has made research (social survey) on consumption of content in internet and outcomes are surprising. The most Russians are not ready to pay for legal content in internet. VCIOOM has surveyed one thousand citizens over 18 years of age.
