The Russian ministry of communication, Federal security service and ministry of trade have jointly proposed to oblige Russian communication companies to use only Russian equipment for execution of Yarovaya law. In other words, only equipment, produced in Russia, can be exploited in order to keep all users’ communications within certain period of time for enforcement purposes.
According to proposed regulation the communication operators can keep users’ text, voice, video and visual communications only on those equipment for which they have special certificates confirming that such equipment has been produced in Russia. It could mean that very soon the personalities – the beneficiaries of Yarovaya law – can be known to the public. The justification for proposal states that such requirement could mitigate “the threat of sanctions” and provide informational security for subscribers of communication operators.
